Tacos el Perico (Maithe and Jesus) have graciously offered to donate 100 dinners to Trinity for our fall fundraiser!We have tickets available in the narthex and this year you can use them at your convenience. You can eat here on campus or take them home whenever you don't feel like cooking.Tickets are $20 each and include delicious tacos, rice, beans and horchata.Bring your friends, family and neighbors. Tickets are good through December 31, 2026.THANK YOU MAITHE AND JESUS!TRUNK OR TREATAs a neighborhood outreach project we will be participating in Trunk or Treat this year for Halloween.The event will be held in the parking lot at Alhambra Credit Union and organized by the North Glen Neighborhood Assocaition. you know every store has candy out already, so if you see a bargain, we will start collecting now! There will be a container in the narthex. Think about attending too. Last year Paula, Tony and Joanne gave out candy and it was really fun seeing all the kids!Starting the week of September 22, Trinity will begin reading and discussing Saving Church: Restoring the People of God with Missional Evangelism by Martyn Atkins and Bishop Ken Carter, one a British Methodist and the other a UMC bishop. Their subject is mission and evangelism in the 21st century, read through our own Wesleyan tradition.
Let's be honest about that second word. Evangelism has been so thoroughly claimed by a particular brand of American evangelicalism, and so often bent toward political ends, that many thoughtful Christians have stopped using the word altogether. That's an understandable retreat, and it has cost us something. Part of what we'll do together is examine how the word got where it is, and then ask what it looks like to share God's love the way Wesley understood it: humbly, compassionately, without coercion, and with the conviction that God is already at work in our neighbors' lives long before we arrive.
This study also has a particular purpose. Our Covenant Council will gather for its annual leadership retreat on November 6 and 7, just after the study ends, to set Trinity's priorities for the coming year in light of the core values we're discerning together. We are asking every member of the Council to take part in this study, and we hope many of you will join them. The people in this conversation will be the ones best prepared to help us live into whatever we name.

Both sessions cover the same reading each week, so come to whichever fits your schedule. Come to both if you'd like too!

Seven weeks: we will begin the week of September 22–23 and finish on Wednesday, November 4.

The book is about $10 on Kindle. Please have a copy before our first session if you can.

FUNDRAISER FEEDBACK: You can still fill one out in the narthex.The last page of last week's email was a page with a few questions about our April 11th Fundraiser.Please take a few minutes to let us know what you thought worked well and what we can do to improve.There will be blanks in the narthex on Sunday if you can't print.You can bring it to church on Sunday or drop at the the office. Thank you!!Reminder:There is a prayer person available each week in the back of church to pray with/for you during communion.Choir practice will resume on September 1st in the sanctuary choir room @ 11am.
The Heat Relief Station has extended their hours! It is now open from 10 am until 8 pm.There are printed copies of the updates in the narthex if you just want a printed copy at home.
If your group has an event or announcement that you want to include in the weekly email or want to RESERVE room on campus just let the office know and we will pass the information on and get you on the calendar. It is very important as we get busier that we have an updated calendar.ALSO: If you borrow an item (table, wagon, cart etc) please return it to the place you found it. We're again spending a lot of time looking for items when we go to use them. Please make sure all doors are locked if you are the last one out, make sure thermostats are set correctly and lights are out. We need to take care of God's house!The office is now open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 am - 2 pm or by appointment.Pastor Loye will have regular office hours on Tuesdays from 10 - 2 pm.The Thrift Store is open Monday, Tuesday and Saturday from 10am - 2pmThanks to everyone who has joined the Thrift Store team. If anyone can be a second person occasionally on Monday or Tuesday that would be greatly appreciated.It's hard for one person to keep an eye on all 3 rooms.Our journaling group meets on Tuesday @ 9:30 am at the Baldridge home (3321 W. State Ave.)The Saturday group @ 8:30 am at MK's Donuts (4729 W Olive, Glendale)is a bible study group (Life Application Bible Study.)Everyone is invited to join one of these groups. Tabbies (from aluminum cans or other canned goods) for Ronald McDonald House. RMH houses parents and families from out of town who have critically ill children in local children's hospitals.There are jars in the narthex and office to collect them. They collect tabs nationwide to support these houses at little to no cost to parents of ill children.
Change for Change: There is a 3 gallon water bottle in the lobby for your change. This will be a cluster conference with 2 other churches and is open to all church members and a great opportunity to learn what is going on at Trinity and share your input. All church members are strongly encouraged to attend to hear the annual reports of the ministries, support church candidates for ordination (e.g. Lisa and Osny), and actively participate in the church's annual decisions under the guidance of our District Superintendent, the Rev. Melissa Rynders. Since Trinity UMC Phoenix is a cooperative parish of three congregations (traditional Anglo, Tongan, and Haitian), members of all three congregations are welcome."We will have a combined service that day at 9:30 am in the sanctuary (English, Tongan and Haitian). We hope to see many of you there.
